DUNCANS MINE Scale3.5mm - 1ft. Gauges 16.5mm ( 'H0') by Steve Grantham

Size:, Operators: Two, Transport: One car.

History and location
The layout is set in Chippewa County, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA. This
area is known for mining producing, over the years, iron ore, copper and coal in a
number of locations. The layout is intended to represent a small but busy operation
loading "jennies" of material for transport to a railhead further down the line. Given
the remote nature of the location and the absence of decent roads, there is a
healthy amount of incoming traffic bringing essential supplies, spares, pit props and
the like.
The Pontiac Flats and Chippewa County RR operate a motley collection of locos
that bring cars up from the railhead at Pontiac Flats to be switched by the mine's
own power. There are occasional visits by other roads who have operating rights
over the branch. Some surprising motive power has appeared on the line over the
years...
Technical
The track is ready weathered Code 70 Micro Engineering. Locos are from Atlas,
Proto 1K & 2K, Bachmann, Athearn and Roundhouse. Freight cars from similar
sources. The two main structures are kits; the shed is Knightwing and the loader is,
I think, Pola. Other ones are scratchbuilt from embossed plastic or Unit Models
resin items. The backscene was kindly painted for me by fellow Hull MRS/1059
Group member Neil Ripley.
